Unmanned trucks roam the Moscow-St. Petersburg highway

Moscow, Sep 24 (Prensa Latina) Russian transport authorities have given green light to unmanned trucks along the M-11 Neva highway connecting Moscow and St. Petersburg, Sputnik reported on Tuesday.

In year and a half, the self-driving vehicles have traveled more than three million kilometers without accidents, which allows us to move to the next stage, where the driver can occupy the passenger’s seat, Transport Minister Roman Starovoyt said.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Saveliev, in turn, affirmed that the fleet is projected to grow to 43 by the end of this year, completing 93 by 2025.

The use of such vehicles has reduced the round-trip time between Moscow and St. Petersburg from three to 1.5 days.
