Pakistan: sustainable development difficult without an end to the war

Islamabad, Sep 24 (Prensa Latina) Pakistan's Minister of Defense, Khawaja Asif, assured that it will be difficult to achieve sustainable development if tragedies perpetuated by the West, such as the one in Gaza, continue, according to press reports.

In his speech at the United Nations Future Summit in New York, the representative of Islamabad also called for ensuring global economic equity by improving the representation of developing countries in international financial institutions, according to Radio Pakistan.

Asif also called for a review of the sovereign debt architecture to make it more equitable with the adoption of an international tax regime consistent with these principles.

He believed that a reform of the World Trade Organization would serve as a vehicle for the expansion and development of exports through preferential treatment for developing countries.

The Pakistani Defense Minister called the adoption of the UN Compact for the Future an expression of the international community’s collective determination to respond to global challenges.

In this regard, he called for the fulfillment of the commitments made in the document in order to change the rules of the game.
