The meeting will take place within the framework of the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations Organization (UN), and according to Honduran Foreign Minister Enrique Reina, the President will focus on her government’s assessment of negotiations leading to the CICIH.
Reina told the press that Castro and Guterres will also deal with ‘the request we have forwarded to publicize the agreement’.
Honduras expects the agreement to establish the CICIH to be transparent, also hoping to gain a clear vision on relevant negotiations once the meeting is over.
In December 2022, the Honduran executive and the UN signed a memorandum of understanding on the Cicih in New York, which was later extended twice.
After signing the memorandum, the UN dispatched four groups of experts to the Central American nation, where the envoys met with the opposition, the civil society, academics and Government institutions.
