Cuba is attentive to forecasts of deteriorating weather conditions

Havana, Sep 24 (Prensa Latina) Cuba closely monitors the future evolution and trajectory of the low pressure area over the northwest Caribbean Sea, with a high probability of becoming a depression or tropical storm (it should be called Helene).

Miriam Teresita Llanes, head of the Forecast Center of the Cuban Institute of Meteorology (Insmet), told Granma newspaper, that associated with the influence of this system during the afternoon and evening of Tuesday, numerous rains and thunderstorms will occur in the west and center of the Caribbean country.

Rainfall could be heavy and intense in localities of the western region, she added.

Likewise, she said, there will be waves in the southwest and central coast, increasing to swells in the south coast of the west, at the end of the afternoon.

Depending on how close this possible tropical cyclone may approach the western portion of the Cuban archipelago, as it moves through the seas to the south of the western region, from early Wednesday morning, the strength of the winds will increase, and coastal flooding could occur in the coast low-lying areas.

A report issued early this morning by Insmet indicated that clouds will prevail in most of the country, with some rains and thunderstorms from the morning in the west and center, more numerous during the afternoon and evening, heavy and intense in some western localities.

Meanwhile, in eastern Cuba some rains will occur in the interior and south during the afternoon.
