In the gathering held the day before on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Yi stressed the continued importance of the “Strategic Partnership for All Climate” agreement between the two countries to anchor cooperation in various fields.

He expressed Beijing’s firm commitment to the implementation of economic collaboration projects and duty-free market opportunities, as a result of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s visit to China in the fourth Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (Focac) Summit earlier this month.

On the other hand, Selassie cited the long-standing diplomatic relations between the two countries based on strong historical ties and stressed that the recent signing of key agreements during the Focac conclave helps to greatly strengthen the multifaceted ties.

He termed the summit as a successful one, which is considered pivotal in further enhancing not only China-Africa ties, but also the strategic partnership between Ethiopia and China.

In addition to bilateral issues, the head of Ethiopian diplomacy briefed Yi on regional peace and security in the Horn of Africa, while exchanging views on ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the BRICS group and in various international forums.
