According to the government press office, the Prime Minister, Apollinaire Joachimson Kyélem de Tambèla, expressed interest in joining the group when he received in audience, the day before, the Russian ambassador in this capital, Igor Martínov, in view of the Burkina Faso Economic Days in Moscow, from October 8 to 11.

The information adds that Burkina Faso’s entry into the Brics group aims at counteracting the dominance of the dollar and the euro for the achievement of a more equitable international trade.

The Russian ambassador expressed his country’s desire to realize the project for the construction of a civil nuclear power plant in Burkina Faso.

Russia recently assumed the annual presidency of the Brics, also founded by Brazil, India, China and South Africa (hence the acronym), countries which were later joined by Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, which now account for almost half of the world’s population and 25 percent of the world’s exports.
