The head of the United Nations ratified his staunch support for the efforts of the South American country to fully implement the Final Peace Agreement of 2016 and dialogue to further consolidate such endeavor.
He also hailed Colombia’s leadership on climate change and environmental issues, particularly its organization of COP16, scheduled for the city of Cali by late October.
The meeting on Monday coincides with the high-level week of the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations, which began the day before with the approval by consensus of the Pact of the Future, a declaration of the Summit of the Future.
Petro will take the podium in the plenary hall of the Assembly this afternoon, during the second and last day of this meeting dedicated to deepening the necessary reform of global governance.
On Tuesday 24, he will again address the forum of 193 countries, when the General Debate is installed.
The Colombian president will be the third Latin American head of state on the list of speakers, preceded by the Brazilian Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva and Guatemala’s Bernardo Arévalo, first and fifth respectively in the day’s agenda.
