The twelfth grader at the Training Center of the Senior High Vocational Institute of Exact Sciences (Ipvce) Ernesto Che Guevara, won the bronze medal in September in Egypt, vying for medals with other 362 students from 91 countries.
In Egypt Escandón accumulated 240 points in the two days of competition.
He thanked his teacher Frank Hernández for his dedication to training him in developing the algorithmic nature and in solving programs in the automation of various mathematical processes.
“We prepared ourselves by solving problems that had been posed in previous Olympiads, as well as reading books about computer science algorithms,” he said.
Marco Antonio stressed that he leaned toward computer science because of the influence of his family and revealed that two of his uncles have been awarded in similar competitions.
Cuban nerds have attended 33 of the 36 International Computing Olympiads, winning 39 awards, eight silver medals, 30 bronze medals and one honorable mention.
