Initiated the day before, the new operational phase is called the Guardian Air Mitigation Plan, and aims to reinforce the battle against the flames from the air.
The director of the Bolivian Air Force (FAB) Operations Center, Colonel Ramiro Gamboa, stated that “at this moment we have three heavy aircraft, with a total discharge capacity of 30,000 liters per mission. Between three and four missions per day are programmed, depending on the emergency”.
This Sunday, the operations were concentrated in the area of Monteverde, considered priority one, where, firstly, the population was protected, he informed.
The authority added that FAB and Army helicopters, such as the Z-9 and ECO-CHARLIE, are also in action, carrying out missions in the areas of Guarayos and Urubichá, while a Chilean aircraft was deployed to Concepción to support the mitigation tasks.
Gamboa said that, in addition to direct firefighting, reconnaissance flights are carried out to identify the areas of greatest risk and establish daily intervention priorities.
