Israel renews ban on East Jerusalem’s governor

Ramallah, Sep 22 (Prensa Latina) Israeli authorities on Sunday renewed the decision to forbid the entrance into the West Bank of East Jerusalem’s Governor Adnan Ghaith, who has been under house arrest since August 2022.

Wafa reported that Ghaith was summoned to appear at the Al-Maskobiyah detention center to inform him of the measure’s extension.

The official has been under indefinite house arrest since August 4, 2022, a decision that the Palestinian Government considers a crime and a violation of international standards.

Since Ghaith took office in 2018, he has been arrested more than 30 times by Israeli authorities, who have prevented him from traveling to the West Bank and maintaining any contact with Palestinian leaders.

Israel prohibits the Palestinian Authority from developing political or social activities in East Jerusalem, claiming it is an Israeli territory.
