Lebanon’s Minister confirms casualties after Israeli shellings

Beirut, Sep 21 (Prensa Latina) The Lebanese Minister of Health, Firas Al-Abyad, confirmed on Saturday 31 deaths and 68 injured in the last update after the Israeli shelling on a residential building in the southern suburb of this capital.

On a press briefing, the Lebanese official lamented the death of three children, aged four, six and 10, as well as seven women, due to the destruction of the eight-story building.

According to the health authority, more than 25 people are still missing under the rubble; meanwhile, heavy machinery and specialized teams arrived at the site to help in the work of removing the debris and search for the missing.

The Lebanese Resistance (Hezbollah) mourned the death of 16 of its members, including commanders Ibrahim Aqil (Hajj Abdul Qader) and Ahmad Mahmoud Wehbe (Hajj Abu Hussein Samir), leading figures in the leadership of the Radwan Force, elite troops.

The Israeli airstrike targeted a building in the Al-Jamous area in the southern suburb of Beirut, near the Al-Qaem Mosque, during the peak hour of extensive citizen mobility, causing destruction and a large number of injuries, including children.

Yesterday at a session of the UN Security Council, Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib called for a halt to Israel’s aggression on all fronts, or “we will be false witnesses to a big explosion.”
