DRC prepares conditions to start Mpox vaccination

Kinshasa, Sep 20 (Prensa Latina) The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is preparing conditions to start its Mpox (monkeypox) vaccination campaign in October, the Africa Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) informed.

The campaign should be launched on October 1 and preparations are underway, particularly in South Kivu and Sankuru provinces, Africa CDC Director-General Jean Kaseya said.

The country received 15,000 doses of the Mpox vaccine donated by Bavarian Nordic, which was added to the shipment of 215,000 doses donated by the European Union (EU) and 50,000 doses donated by the United States.

The Government of the DRC signed an agreement with Japan for the donation of vaccines to fight the disease, which is spreading rapidly in the country, where only three of 26 provinces remain without confirmed cases.

The Public Health Emergency Operations Center informed that the country detected 25,757 Mpox suspected cases, confirmed 5,399, and recorded 806 deaths this year. The Ituri, Lomami, and Haut-Katanga provinces remained unconfirmed.
