The FA’s plan of priorities includes 22 measures ranging from prevention, greater professionalization and police training, an increase in the number of police officers, actions for the prison population and the creation of a Ministry of Justice and Human Rights.
The Front proposes the creation of 2,000 new police posts, particularly to reinforce operational capacity in the ‘hot spots of the metropolitan area and large cities in other departments’.
The installation of video surveillance cameras and the use of drones for ‘virtual patrolling’ are contained in the FA document.
It also includes the development of a Comprehensive System for the Fight against Organized Crime and Drug Trafficking, which seeks to coordinate the actions of different state agencies, accompanied by the ‘More Neighborhood Plan’ to dismantle criminal gangs and the creation of a Special Task Force.
The Front would incorporate devices for monitoring those responsible for sex crimes, who will be fitted with ankle bracelets and tracking devices.
In Uruguay there are 650 people convicted of sexual crimes in the National Registry of Rapists and Sexual Abusers, and approximately 3,000 complaints per year, according to La Diaria.
Regarding the prison issue, there are plans for the protection and health of the staff, improvement of the conditions of the inmates and a national literacy campaign in the prisons.
