Vietnamese leader stresses significance of ties with Cuba

Hanoi, Sep 19 (Prensa Latina) General Secretary of the Communist Party (PCV) and president of Vietnam, To Lam, reiterated here today the great importance his country attaches to the friendship and special solidarity towards the Party, State and the Cuban people.

Lam made the statement when receiving Cuba’s ambassador to his country, Orlando Hernandez Guillen, through whom he thanked his Cuban counterpart Miguel Diaz-Canel for the Caribbean nation’s willingness to send experts and doctors to help Vietnam overcome the serious consequences of typhoon Yagi.

The Vietnamese leader also hailed the invitation extended to him by Diaz-Canel to visit Cuba, adding his upcoming state visit to Cuba, on the 25th and 26th of this month, will strengthen mutual trust and solidarity between the two peoples, raising bilateral cooperation to a new level.

Hernandez Guillen expressed the willingness of Cuba’s senior leaders to consolidate the special historical relations between the two parties, states and peoples.

The Cuban diplomat praised Vietnam’s achievements during nearly 40 years of renewal (Doi Moi) under the leadership of the VCP and stressed that the country’s lessons and experiences in socio-economic development, expansion of foreign relations and international integration have raised its position and prestige in the international arena.

In agreement with To Lam’s views, the ambassador expressed his conviction that the success of the visit will create a strong momentum for the relations between the two countries in the future, according to the VNA news agency.

The Vietnamese top leader will travel to New York City next Saturday to attend the United Nations Future Summit, to be held on September 22-23.
