UN condemns and calls for accountability for terrorist attack in Mali

United Nations, Sep 19 (Prensa Latina) UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres today condemned the recent terrorist attack reported in Bamako, Mali, which killed dozens and wounded at least 200, including one UN staff member.

In a message released by his spokesman, the head of the organization called on the African country’s transitional authorities to ensure that those responsible for Tuesday’s attack are held accountable.

He also sent condolences to the families of the victims, the transitional government and the people of Mali.

Guterres wished a speedy recovery to the injured, including a member of the UN guard unit who was wounded.

According to press reports, the Malian capital was the target of a jihadist attack on Tuesday aimed at a military police training camp and a military airport.

Some reports estimate more than 70 casualties and nearly 200 wounded as a result of the attack.
