Revista Disruptiva featured the research “Access to quality water,” developed by specialists at the “Doctor Jose Simeon Cañas” Central American University (UCA), with alarming findings, as in the case of El Salvador reaching a critical point in the next decade in terms of water availability.
The study provides a general diagnosis on access, water availability, and inequality in accessing it. The survey was developed by a multidisciplinary team of researchers from 2022 to 2023.
Data from the Strategic Research Program’s survey on access to quality water, conducted in January 2023, show that about eight out of ten people surveyed acknowledge that the country is facing a water crisis.
Among the causes cited are lacking domestic and industrial wastewater treatment (43.87 percent), using water sources as a garbage dump (47.57), and other reasons such as accumulating animal waste and soil chemicals used in agriculture that seep into the soil. Ied/iff/mem/lb
