“The new extension by the US government of the application of the Trading with the Enemy Act to Cuba seeks to maintain the bases of its criminal blockade against the Cuban people,” the foreign minister denounced.
Through a message on X, Rodriguez Parrilla also stated that “despite the serious damage caused” by the hostile policies of the US governments on the Cuban people, “they continue to fail in their objective of destroying the Revolution.”
The Trading with the Enemy Act, enacted under President Woodrow Wilson’s term (1913-1921), during the period of the First World War, empowers the government in Washington to restrict commercial activities with nations that they consider adversaries.
Backed by that legislation, in February 1962 Democratic President John F. Kennedy issued the executive order that officially began the economic, commercial and financial blockade against the Caribbean nation, considered the longest in history.
That provision has survived 11 White House administrations and Biden’s extension of the application of the Law on Cuba will expire on September 14, 2025. Ied/raj
