Colombian unions will rally in support of the president

Bogotá, Sep 19 (Prensa Latina) Colombian unions will march throughout the country in support of the government of Gustavo Petro and in rejection of the right-wing maneuvers to remove him from power.

According to the president of the General Confederation of Labor, Percy Oyola, all the conditions have been created for the mobilizations in support of the program promoted by the current government. “In the case of Bogotá we are convening a rally for 11 a.m. in the Plaza de Bolívar and thus, at a national level, concentrations are being organized with the purpose of combating the coup that is planned against the president of the Republic,” he declared to the press.

The union leader took the opportunity to criticize the actions of the National Electoral Council, which, he explained, has no jurisdictional powers and dares to initiate an investigation and promote sanctions against the President of the Republic, which is a way of creating conditions for a coup, as was the atmosphere created around the truckers’ strike that occurred earlier this month, and the rest of expressions that were created with the purpose of removing the president and his proposals.

The president of the Central Unitary Workers’ Union, Fabio Arias, said that with the mobilizations they seek to send a message to the Constitutional Court to dismiss a lawsuit that seeks to annul the Pension Law, recently sanctioned by the president.

Members of the political coalition Historic Pact asked the elderly and all citizens to join the acts that will take place during this day to contribute to the purpose of safeguarding the law,

The Colombian Federation of Education Workers also called on its members on social media to mobilize to defend democracy, social reforms, peace and unity.
