A report of the Salvadoran Coffee Institute (ISC) valued that the increase of the second agricultural product of export of the country occurred in the last 12 months to have a gain of almost 100 dollars.
Surpassing the barrier of 260 dollars is a ceiling not observed since 2011, in a market that fears a deficit in supply if the severe drought suffered by Brazil leaves heavy losses.
A year ago the 46-kilogram bag of the grain reached a price of 146 and 176 U.S. dollars to average 160,98 dollars, the day before it reached 261,13.
The ISC considers that the moderate rise in prices of the aromatic is driven by the appreciation of the Brazilian real after reaching its highest level in three weeks against the U.S. dollar.
That currency strength discouraged coffee export sales from Brazil, reducing global suppl. The ISC, recalled, that Brazil is facing severe drought and extreme heat conditions which threaten coffee crops.
