In the particular case of localities such as Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Thai Nguyen and Lao Cai the storm’s impact on the economy may be even greater and cause a decline in GDP of more than 0,5 percentage points compared to the previous forecast.
The estimates are contained in a government resolution issued the day before and related to key tasks and solutions to urgently overcome the consequences of super typhoon Yagi, stabilize people’s lives and promote the recovery of production and business.
Yagi caused severe and extensive damage to people, property, crops, livestock and socio-economic infrastructure, greatly affecting people’s material and spiritual lives, production and business activities, especially agricultural production, services and tourism.
According to the document, the total material damage caused by the third storm to hit the country this year is preliminarily estimated at more than VND50 trillion (just over US$2 billion), while 329 people are reported dead or missing and 1,929 were injured.
