Southern African Mission thanks MONUSCO for support in DRC

Kinshasa, Sep 18 (Prensa Latina) The Mission of the Southern African Development Community in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Samidrc) today thanked the United Nations Stabilization Mission (Monusco) for its support.

During a visit to the city of Goma by the head of the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Major General Monwabisi Dyakopu, commander of the Samidrc, conveyed his gratitude and briefed the guest on present activities, challenges and perspectives for that force.

Lacroix welcomed the positive spirit of collaboration and encouraged the two entities to increase coordination to support the ceasefire in force since August 4 and agreed between the governments of the DRC and Rwanda, reported the Monusco account on the social network X.

The head of peace operations also met with the military governor of the province of North Kivu, Peter Cirimwami Nkuba, who provided details on the security situation in that territory and praised the joint work carried out with Monusco.

Lacroix thanked the provincial authorities and ratified the will to maintain the military cooperation of the UN forces with the provincial authorities, in view of the current security instability.

“We have spoken about the ongoing diplomatic efforts, which are very important and which we support both politically and in terms of the support that we are going to give to the Verification Mechanism and the ceasefire,” said the UN representative to the press after the meeting.
