India provides Myanmar with flood emergency assistance

New Delhi, Sep 18 (Prensa Latina) India sent to Myanmar 53 tons of materials worth one million dollars under its Sadbhav operation to support the recovery of the nations affected by Typhoon Yagi, the Foreign Ministry informed today.

After receiving the request from the Myanmar authorities, the Indian government delivered a first shipment of 21 tons with tents, generators, prepared meals, solar lamps, medical supplies, mosquito nets and repellents, water purification tablets and disinfectants, among other materials, and the day before a second batch of assistance of 32 tons arrived in Naypidó, the diplomatic source explained.

The Indian authorities are also assessing the possibility of extending emergency humanitarian aid as needed.

Earlier, the Indian government delivered to Vietnam, the nation most affected by the powerful storm, a shipment of 35 tons of basic necessities valued at one million dollars.

It also donated US$100,000 worth of products such as hygiene kits, blankets, mosquito nets and repellents, sleeping bags, generators, water purifiers and disinfectants to Laos.

In Myanmar, floods and landslides caused by the typhoon and seasonal monsoon rains have claimed at least 226 lives and 77 people are missing, the state-run Myanma Alinn newspaper reported.
