“Organized crime and corruption are demolishing democracy”, Chomali noted at the Ecumenical ceremony, attended by the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, along with ministers and other government officials.
He alerted that today the greatest concern for Chileans is insecurity.
“No one feels safe. The squares, neighborhoods, medical facilities, schools, jealously guarded by the neighbors, are the current places where violence prevails with force,” he denounced.
Chomali considered there is no reason justifying that people are locked in their own homes without the possibility of taking an afternoon walk.
“It cannot be that extortion has been installed in Chile. If there is no joint action by society, the country runs the risk of becoming a hostage of organized crime,” he said, and predicted that soon it will be too late, the law of the strongest will impose and the State will remain a mere spectator.
