Scores of wounded in Lebanon due pagers’ blasts

Beirut, Sep 17 (Prensa Latina) The Emergency Operations Center of the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health today reported a large number of people injured when the pagers they use to communicate exploded.

Through a statement, the center added wounded citizens arrived in hospitals in southern Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Beirut following the detonation of their pagers. Several media outlets linked the injured to members of the Lebanese Resistance (Hezbollah). According to the National News Agency (NNA), dozens of members of Hezbollah have been seriously wounded on Tuesday in southern Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Beirut following the explosions of their communication devices through the use of high technology.

Other media outlets speculate it was an attack

The Ministry called on all citizens using pagers to stay away from them until the truth about what happened comes to light.

The health institution called on all Lebanese hospitals, especially in the areas adjacent to the sites where the detonations occurred, to be on high alert and to increase the level of their preparations to meet the immediate need for emergency services.

At the same time, it called for coordination with the Ministry of Public Health to quickly distribute the injured and ensure the prompt start of their treatment.

There was widespread panic in Beirut and ambulances were rushing through the southern suburbs of the capital. Local press quoted residents as saying that explosions were taking place even 30 minutes after the initial blasts.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military, which has been exchanging fire with Hezbollah since last October in parallel with its war on Gaza.
