In a communiqué issued on the occasion of the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, the Palestinian Authority for Environmental Quality warned about the consequences for life of the neighboring country’s attacks.

The war campaign not only threatens human life, but also natural ecosystems because the intense bombardment caused air and water pollution, it stressed.

The organization pointed out that the West Bank, as well as the coastal enclave, is subject to systematic attacks on the environment.

In this regard, it criticized colonial expansion, land leveling and the destruction of natural reserves.

These incursions increase environmental degradation and hinder Palestinian efforts to protect nature and the climate, it said.

The institution stressed that Palestine is considered one of the least contributing countries to the depletion of the ozone layer in the world, with rates far below those of Israel.

The Authority reaffirmed the Palestinian government’s commitment to international treaties and its adoption of strict measures to prevent the import, production or use of chemicals that affect the ozone layer.
