Deterioration of the socioeconomic situation in Haiti denounced

Port-au-Prince, Sep 17 (Prensa Latina) The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Haiti (OCHA) denounced the socio-economic deterioration that Haiti is going through today.

In its statement, the OCHA emphasized the unprecedented situation experienced by citizens in the Artibonite and West zone.

Artibonite is the second department of Haiti with the most severe multi-sectoral needs after the West, the international organization said in the document published by the newspaper Le Nouvelliste.

Previously, the United Nations (UN) warned that Haiti is at risk of chronic vulnerability due to the lack of funds for humanitarian aid.

On the UN warning, the OCHA stated that the indiscriminate violence of armed groups almost caused the collapse of basic services, plunging Haiti into a crisis unprecedented since 2010.

According to OCHA, education, health and water, hygiene and sanitation, already insufficient to meet the needs of the local population, worsened this complex scenario.

In turn, the International Organization for Migration reported almost 600,000 people fleeing gang attacks.
