Two thirds of constituencies are supposed to elect a delegate who faces allegations of corruption, some of these accusations linked to advisors of the Presidential Transitional Council (PTC), who seek to introduce their relatives in the PEC.
“Instead of learning from the mistakes of the past, the some of the PTC’s members are still resorting to old methods of controlling the central body during the process of appointing PEC members,” explained Cojhit executive director Alain Albert.
“They have ignored our recommendations and those from other civil society entities, by keeping in the CPT a former electoral advisor accused of corruption for rigging the constituents vote in the 2016 elections, and now this politician is in charge of the electoral file, Albert argued.
The PTC formation process must be halted and all presidential advisors suspected of corruption be expelled including the former 2016 electoral advisor, they demanded. It is vital – the youth activists said – to maintain the debate around the issue with all relevant sectors of the nation, so as to establish an environment of trust between the PEC and all groups involved in the electoral process.
It is now imperative – points out Albert quoted by Le National newspaper – to take all necessary measures to give credibility to the process that should lead to the formation of the PEC.
