UN Security Council to evaluate humanitarian situation in Gaza

United Nations, Sep 16 (Prensa Latina) The UN Security Council will evaluate the humanitarian situation in Gaza amid complaints about the recent attacks.

The session comes just days after six humanitarian workers from the UN Refugee Agency (UNRWA) were killed in an attack on a school and another staff member was murdered by a sniper in his home in the West Bank.

These events raised the number of UN workers killed during the Israeli offensive that began on October 7th to more than 220, which the United Nations considers unprecedented figures for a single conflict in such a short period of time.

According to official figures, the conflict in the enclave has already claimed the lives of more than 41,000 Palestinians, while more than 95,000 have been injured.

The high cost in civilian lives raises the condemnation of the United Nations and an overwhelming majority of the international community in the search for a ceasefire and a political solution with the establishment of two states.

As part of its efforts, the UN General Assembly will vote next Tuesday on a long-awaited resolution that establishes a six-month deadline for Israel’s departure from the occupied territories in the West Bank.

Although the forum’s decisions are not binding, the meeting is of special importance as it would respond to the Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice released on July 19th, which recognizes Israel’s presence in the area as illegal and calls for measures to be taken.
