A short press release issued by the Syrian Presidency stated that the two sides analyzed several issues related to international and regional security.
They also addressed bilateral relations between and prospects for strengthening them, in both countries’ benefit.
Russia has been deploying a military contingent in Syria since September 2015, mainly stationed at the Hemeimim airbase in Latakia province and the naval base in the Tartus governorate, in addition to its presence in the country’s several regions.
According to Moscow, Russian air support for the Syrian army has helped to liberate most of the country’s territory from terrorism.
