More than 15 vessels of the Pacific Fleet participate in the training on behalf of the Russian Federation, including the flagship, missile cruiser Varyag, along with the frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov, destroyer Admiral Panteleev, corvettes Gromkiy, Sovershennyy and Aldar Tsydenzhapov, as well as two diesel submarines, supported by a dozen planes and helicopters.
China was represented by the destroyers Xining and Wuxi, plus the frigate Linyi of the People’s Liberation Army Navy.
The joint exercise also included training in transmissions and tactical maneuvers.
A total of 24 observers from 10 countries watched the exercise from the Marshal Shaposhnikov frigate.
The crews trained in coordinated navigation and defense against submarines, conducted artillery fire and repelled an air attack, overcame a minefield and destroyed a floating mine. They also trained in combating aquatic and aerial drones.
Russia is holding the Ocean 2024 strategic exercise from September 10th to 16th, which sees the participation of more than 400 surface ships and submarines, 120 aircraft and helicopters and 90 thousand troops.
The maneuvers take place in the waters of the Pacific, the Arctic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea, the Caspian and the Baltic.
