The newspaper informed that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) used those people in dangerous roles during the fighting in the coastal enclave, which has been under fire for more than 11 months.
Haaretz, citing security sources, stressed that the immigrants agreed to take part in the war in exchange for “help in resolving their situation and granting them asylum.”
Recruitment is carried out systematically and with the approval of the judicial security advisor, an official told the publication.
It pointed out that recruitment is taking place even though the issue of granting them residency has not yet been effectively decided, and in this sense clarified that none of them has been granted asylum yet.
