Ethiopia and China agree to strengthen military cooperation

Addis Ababa, Sep 15 (Prensa Latina) Ethiopia and China agreed to strengthen military cooperation in the Fifth Generation Warfare, technology transfer, capacity building and equipment, on the sidelines of the 11th Xiangshan Forum in Beijing, an official source revealed today.

The Chief of Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF), Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, heading the African delegation, held talks with the member of the Asian Central Military Commission (CMC) and Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of that command, General Liu Zhenli, on enhancing bilateral collaboration, the ENDF said.

The source said the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding to formalize their commitments and put them into practice.

Ethiopia’s ambassador to China, Tefera Derbew, commented that he hopes the participation of the high-level military delegation in the forum and subsequent bilateral meetings will strengthen the capabilities of local defense forces.

With more than 1,800 guests from 100 countries and international organizations, an unprecedented number, the 11th Xiangshan Forum was held from September 12 to 14 under the theme: ‘Promoting Peace for a Shared Future’, an event focused on aspects of the military and security industry.

This year’s event featured critical discussions on global security, regional stability and innovative defense technologies.
