In his speech at the Brics Media Summit, organized by the Russian news agency Tass, Gonzalez highlighted the role that the media should assume, from its power and strengths, to the efforts of political decision-makers in view of the urgency of a civilized coexistence of cooperation and integration.
“This community can contribute significantly to the historic claim of the South, especially in the path towards a new world information order, against new forms of colonialism, including cultural colonialism, and the necessary reform of the current international financial system, which is deeply unjust, antidemocratic, speculative and exclusionary,” he added.
“The Brics Media Summit in the beloved Moscow is certainly a timely forum to define our contribution to the future of communication, which is at the same time an essential part of any area of the future,” González said.
In this sense, he insisted on the impulse that should be given by the member nations of the integrationist bloc, as well as its allies in the media field, for the creation of a balanced and objective communication system, which fairly shows the enormous potentialities and realities of the Group’s members and which stands as a counterweight to the Western monopolies.
Prensa Latina attends this meeting convinced of the need for the use of advanced technologies, cooperation and joint work in pursuit of sustainable development, for mutual benefit and to promote a reasonable international order, he added.
In this context, he argued that for the Latin American agency it is significant to be present in the debates on mechanisms to expand informative cooperation in complex moments at international level, due to the pressures of the Western media that try to show distorted realities of those who do not assume their hegemonic agenda.
“Prensa Latina is ready to integrate, to the extent of its possibilities, to the efforts for a new information order, as projected by the Brics”, he added.
