“For a long time we have wanted to give this recognition to this group who really do a very difficult and laborious work, against all odds, and have achieved some successes that we hope will be added to others”.
This was announced by Diane Denoir, member of the board of directors of the Benedetti Foundation, at a ceremony in which the Uruguayan writer was remembered on the 104th anniversary of his birth.
Also sharing the distinction will be the Research Group in Forensic Anthropology (GIAF) of the University of the Republic, and the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team (EAAF).
The GIAF has played a leading role in the search for the remains of those who were disappeared during the dictatorship that prevailed here between 1973 and 1985.
The same mission was carried out by the Argentine forensic team, whose assistance has been vital to identify the skeletons found in their country, in Uruguay and other parts of the world.
