Sudanese army reports death of some 80 paramilitaries in El Fasher

Khartoum, Sep 13 (Prensa Latina) Sudanese Army sources announced today the death of some 80 paramilitaries in violent battles in the strategic city of El Fasher, capital of the state of North Darfur. According to a military statement released Friday, the fighting took place the day before after the paramilitaries launched an attack on the city from the east and south.

Dozens of other paramilitaries were wounded and more than 20 of their vehicles were destroyed and 10 confiscated.

The so-called Rapid Deployment Forces (RSF) control the entire immense region of Darfur, composed of five states, but have not been able to seize El Fasher, the last bastion of the army in the west of the country.

Since mid-April of last year, Sudan has been plunged into an internal war, after contradictions over power issues flared up between the army chief Abdel Fatah al-Burhan and the leader of the paramilitary RSF, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.

In Sudan, where a military coup d’état occurred in 2019 and another in 2021, a conflict broke out in which thousands of civilians were killed, including some 15,000 in the West Darfur region alone.
