The event was hosted at the Peñas Blancas border post, in the department of Rivas (South), where the mayor of the municipality of the same name, Reyna Galeano, referred to the celebration of Independence and the brotherhood between peoples.
She also highlighted the commitment to continue the work for unity and the strengthening of ties between the Central American nations.
“Our youth have traveled around our country carrying the Torch of the Central American Union, which remains a symbol of liberty, honor and struggle for Nicaraguans. Liberty that we make a reality every day in Nicaragua, by building and ensuring peace, dignity and true victories for our people,” she stressed.
Every September, the traditional date honors the signing of the Act of Independence of Central America from Spain in 1821, in a gesture of brotherhood and unity between the countries of the region.
The first torch of independence left Guatemala in September 1964 starting a route that crosses El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua and ends in Costa Rica, after covering more than 1,300 kilometers.
