Audiences at the Village du Monde learned details on the impact of the blockade imposed on the Caribbean nation for more than six decades and of its extraterritorial reach, to which French companies, banks and citizens are not immune.
Speaking at the meeting, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (CCPCC) Julio César García described the blockade as a violation of human rights, which he illustrated with examples of the effects on sensitive sectors of society such as health.
This policy has been used as a persistent weapon to break the resistance of the Cuban people, warned the Cuban representative, who heads the party delegation to the 89th edition of the Fête de l’Humanité
The debate addressed in particular the arbitrary inclusion of Cuba in the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, drawn up by Washington.
García explained that the real aim of the United States is to suffocate the island by tightening the financial blockade and pointed out that this measure, adopted in January 2021 by then-President Donald Trump and maintained by his successor Joseph Biden, is part of the escalation of attacks against the Island nation.
He denounced that Cuba has been included in a list of alleged terrorists, a scourge the Island has been the ratget of for decades.
For her part, the leader of the French Communist Party (PCF) Charlotte Balavoine ratified her group’s support for Cuba and its rejection of the blockade and the presence on the unilateral list of countries sponsoring terrorism.
