The Institute of Foreign Affairs (IFA) unveiled its involvement in climate change and just transition issues in Africa and the Brics Agenda (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Ethiopia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Iran) on Tuesday at the African Union (AU).
Opening the meeting, IFA executive director Jafar Bedru mentioned that, as a member of that economic bloc, Addis Ababa also seeks to enhance its capacity to implement climate-resilient and low-carbon development strategies in line with the AU’s Agenda 2063 goals.
Bedru stressed that such collaboration can facilitate access to renewable energy technologies, financial resources and technical expertise among member countries, further supporting their energy transition.
During the workshop organized between the IFA and the South African Institute of International Affairs, the African nation’s commitment to combat deforestation and forest degradation through the Green Legacy Initiative was reiterated.
The Russian ambassador here, Evgeny Terekhin, representatives of Brics member expert institutes, the AU, stakeholders and several researchers also participated in the event. ef/abo/mem/nmr
