El Salvador reports another day without homicides

San Salvador, Sep 13 (Prensa Latina) The National Civil Police (PNC) of El Salvador reported today that the tendency to lower homicides continues, reaching a rate close to 1.5 per 100 thousand inhabitants.

A report from the armed forces stated that during Thursday no deaths were reported as a result of the actions of criminal gangs, whose members and alleged collaborators, numbering more than 81,000, are in prison.

The PNC attributes these results to the application of the Territorial Control Plan, implemented since 2019, and the exception regime, renewed in the country for 30 consecutive months.

The results of these policies are highlighted this Friday by local media outlets that review a report by US television station CNN, which dedicated ample space to addressing Salvadoran security policies.

The news network says that while critics denounce dictatorship in El Salvador, the people say they have never felt so free, reported Diario El Salvador.

The report remarked that despite criticism from human rights organizations, the Salvadoran population is mostly happy with the security climate in the country. El Salvador went from being the ‘murder capital of the world’ with an average of one homicide per hour at the beginning of 2016, to a country where the population ‘has never felt so free, assures the US television station CNN in the report titled ‘Critics denounce their government as a dictatorship, but these people say they have never felt so free’.
