United Nations, Sep 12 (Prensa Latina) UN Secretary-General António Guterres today celebrated the transformative power of cooperation among developing countries on the occasion of the United Nations Day for South-South Cooperation.

In his message for the day, the UN Secretary-General called strong partnerships in the Global South and triangular cooperation crucial to building a better future for all.

These partnerships can foster a fairer and more inclusive global financial system that responds to the challenges facing developing countries,’ he added.

“They can help unleash the power of digitalization, data and science-backed solutions for sustainable development as well as improve the quality of life now and for future generations, building resilience and empowering women and youth, he acknowledged.

The UN chief urged taking advantage of the power of unity and solidarity among developing countries, while assuring that such exchange does not reduce the responsibility of richer nations to address global inequalities or replace North-South cooperation.

The World Day for South-South Cooperation provides an opportunity to raise awareness and highlight the pressing needs of some of these regions.

This exchange contributes to their well-being, national and collective self-reliance in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.

In this type of action, developing countries share knowledge, skills, experiences and resources that can accelerate progress towards the implementation and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals,’ states the United Nations website.

Among the positive experiences, the UN recognizes Cuba’s outstanding support to the fight against Ebola in Africa, the joint family farming and school feeding programs between Congo and Brazil or Unesco’s teacher training programs between Fiji, Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
