The well-armed modern filibusters arrived aboard a motorboat and climbed up to the surface of the ship belonging to the international Crowley Company.
So far, there is no information on the whereabouts of the abducted Filipino seamen.
The last incident of piracy in Haiti in the 21st century was reported by the Maritime and Navigation Service, when on an otherwise peaceful evening on April 13, some individuals carrying powerful weapons attacked the ship Jevi Vle, which was sailing towards the island of La Gonâve.
The vessel was bound for an old flour mill loaded with 1,500 sacks of rice, the organization said, quoted by Haiti Libre.
Haiti Libre recalled that this act of piracy was preceded by a similar incident on April 4, when the cargo ship Magalie was attacked. Magalie was carrying 60,000 sacks of rice. The vessel was vandalized and partially looted, as the filibusters were only able to snatch 10,000 sacks.
It took two days of intense naval pursue by special units of the Haitian National Police to recover the ship.
