Costa Rican media pays tribute to national and PL expert journalist

San José, Sep 12 (Prensa Latina) The Semanario Universidad de Costa Rica will pay tribute today to journalist Rafael Ugalde, who worked for 30 years in that publication and was the first correspondent of the Latin American news agency Prensa Latina in this country.

The known lawyer, now retired, was throughout his career a deep defender of the ideas of the Cuban national hero and intellectual, José Martí, about whom he taught new generations of journalists, says a note inserted in that publication.

“His time at the José Martí High School -The Weekly recalls-left a deep and indelible mark on him, because he became a ‘confessed Martiano’, and it was common for him to prescribe to the youngsters who came to do their internships the doses about the independence leader of Cuba, through articles, books and gatherings”.

According to Universidad, “Ugalde (1949) made his own, throughout his extensive career, that phrase of Martí: ‘I want to cast my lot with the poor of the earth’, since his vocation is always at the service of the most needed and humble of society, both in his work as a journalist and as a lawyer”.

Ugalde complemented 25 years of work at Semanario Universidad with that of Prensa Latina, as explained in an article published by the Semanario.
