Jean Marc Berthier, Minister of Defense, met with the Canadian Ambassador to Haiti, André François, to discuss the prospects for bilateral cooperation in this area.
The meeting took place days after it was announced that the Haitian National Police will receive training in specialized centers in Brazil, with the aim of raising the level of agents in the fight against gangs.
The agreement was adopted in the context of a visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship of Haiti, Dominique Dupuy, to the South American nation, where she participated in the Conference on the African Diaspora in the Americas.
Dupuy met with Brazil’s Minister of Justice, Ricardo Lewandowski, and Minister of Defense, José Múcio, and agreed that more than 400 Haitian police officers will benefit from training in various centers in Brazil.
Recently, Marc Berthier, Minister of Defense of the Caribbean nation, held a meeting with the Chargé d’Affaires of the Mexican Embassy, Joanna Yolanda Gómez.
During the talk they discussed about strengthening defense cooperation, and Mexico will support with military training to the so-called Pearl of the Antilles, the digital newspaper Haiti Libre recalled. In 2018, the Military Cooperation Agreement was signed between the Mexican Ministry of National Defense and the Haitian Ministry of Defense.
