“We need another peaceful conference and Russia must be at the negotiating table; this is the task that we now have to face to know what is happening,” emphasized the head of government, as quoted by ARD.
According to Scholz, support for Ukraine should not stop, even if some of those who voted for right-wing populist parties disagreed with that, he said, referring to the results of state elections in Saxony and Thuringia in Eastern Germany.
Scholz said on September 8th in an interview with ZDF television that the time had come to discuss how to achieve peace in the conflict in Ukraine, and spoke again in favor of Russia’s participation in a new meeting to solve the crisis.
A conference on Ukraine was held in Bürgenstock on June 15th and 16th. Switzerland, which began organizing it in agreement with the Kiev authorities, did not invite Russia. Delegations from several States, including China, did not participate in the forum. As a result, none of the member countries of the BRICS Group supported the final statement.
According to the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, the conference turned out to be a complete fiasco and such meetings cannot serve as a basis for sustainable peace.
