La Paz, Sep 11 (Prensa Latina) President of Bolivia Luis Arce will attend the signing of a contract with Russia for the development of a lithium direct extraction (EDL) plant that will take place at government headquarters.

The understanding is called “Accidental Partnership for the Development of an EDL and Lithium Carbonation Plant in the Salar de Uyuni.”

On December 13th, 2023, President Arce attended the signing of an agreement to build in three phases an EDL Pilot Plant capable of producing 14 thousand tons annually in Uyuni, department of Potosí.

“The signing of the agreement translates into benefits for our country. From this agreement we are sure that these investments and the work and its production will generate greater development,” said the dignitary, who assured that the agreement ratifies “the form and model of production and marketing.” that Bolivia proposes to all foreign companies interested in Bolivian lithium.

Arce stated that Bolivia ratified through the agreement “that we are and participate in absolutely all points of the production and marketing chain of our lithium (…), because this is determined by our business model that we explain to different countries.”

The head of state highlighted that currently lithium “is privileged in the world,” and Bolivia has an important reserve that reaches 23 million tons in the salt flats of Uyuni, Pastos Grandes and Coipasa, in the departments of Potosí and Oruro, respectively.
