Argentine organizations mobilizing against policies

Buenos Aires, Sep 11 (Prensa Latina) Members of union and social organizations in Argentina will participate in a rally in front of Congress, in rejection of the Government's policies and President Javier Milei's veto of the retirement mobility law.

The demonstration was convened by the Workers’ Central (CTA), the CTA-Autonomous, the Trade Union Front, the Federal Current of the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), the Union of Workers of the Popular Economy and the Roundtable of Human Rights Organizations.

“In the face of Milei’s new dictatorial disposition, which devastates Congress, we agreed in unity to reject decree 70/23 and the veto of an improvement for retirees. We also support employees in their fight for salary increases, especially in the university sector,” said the general secretary of the CTA-Autonomous, Hugo Godoy, who also recalled that older adults and children are the most affected by the ruthless actions of the government.

The representative of La Bancaria and deputy for Unión por la Patria, Sergio Palazzo, urged “all Argentines who consider that these policies go against their rights and quality of life to join the demonstration. We condemn the president’s criminal brake on the increase in pensions and we repudiate his announcement of a possible veto of a potential increase for university students,” he said.

The head of the CTA, Hugo Yasky, in turn, stated that poverty and destitution have increased since Milei’s arrival to power in December 2023. “We need the union movement to start giving answers, without bowing its head or getting on its knees. We want to live in a country where the elderly, children and workers are respected. We are in the hands of a servile president, strong against the weak and weak against the strong. We will not allow them to discipline us with the policy of hunger and repression,” Yasky said.

The leader of the CGT Pablo Moyano assured that the mobilization will be forceful. “Hopefully we can raise awareness among the deputies and senators, who still have some lucidity left. We must reject any attempt to obstruct the new university budget and we will continue in the streets to resist the attacks of the International Monetary Fund and this government,” he stated.
