Havana to host Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival night (+Photo)

Havana, Sep 10 (Prensa Latina) Under the title 'Songs of the Silk Road' Chinese artists will be performing tonight here on occasion of China’s traditional Mid-Autumn Festival, hosted in Havana by the Covarrubias Hall of the Cuban National Theater.

The event is organized by the Federation of Literary and Artistic Circles of China, the Chinese Embassy in Cuba, the Quyi Association and the Havana Provincial Government.

As part of the show, the comedy duo (Errenzhuan) formed by actors Zhang Chunfeng and Wang Chao, winners of the highest award in Chinese popular arts, the Peony Award, will present the plays ‘Little Old Night’ and ‘Seeing Paintings in the West Chamber’.

Errenzhuan is a representative form of folk art, as storytelling, in the Northeast of China, where people say they ‘would rather skip lunch than miss Errenzhuan’, showing the importance of this art form in the lives of locals.

Another performance starting at 19:00 local time will be ‘Borrowing the Red Lantern’, starring Dong Qifeng, president and general manager of Hangzhou Comic Arts Company, and Liang Xue, a top actress of the same troupe.

This type of performance is a popular art form widespread in the Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai regions of China, as part of which one character asks questions and another responds with humor.

The audience will also enjoy the Beijing Rhyming Drum ‘Chou Mo Yin Chu’, widely performed in the Beijing and Tianjin regions by Yang Fei, actress of the Beijing Folk Arts Group and secretary general of the Northern Drum Music Committee of the China Folk Arts Association.

The piece is performed by singer who simultaneously plays the drums, narrating stories of folk heroes and historical legends.
