Third stage of polio vaccination began in Angola

Colera-Vacuna-768x509
Luanda, Sep 6 (Prensa Latina) More than six million children under five years of age must be vaccinated from today in Angola against polio, in the third campaign being carried out this year.

The national coordinator of the Expanded Vaccination Program (PAV), Alda de Sousa, told Jornal de Angola that until Sunday they intend to reach 6,288,320 infants nationwide, in response to the appearance of the virus in different provinces.

Luanda, Huíla, Lunda-Norte, Lunda-Sul, Moxico and Benguela are the territories where cases were reported, she explained, all isolated to avoid the spread of the disease, in addition to the implementation of three vaccination campaigns.

The vaccination strategy will be door-to-door and there will also be fixed posts in urban centers, condominiums, churches and squares, in order to reach the largest number of children, the coordinator said.

Angola carried out the first phase of the campaign from May 16 to 19 this year and the second from June 28 to 30, during which millions of children between zero and four years of age received the immunogen dose.

In the third round, all infants vaccinated in the previous phases should also receive the corresponding dose of the vaccine, so the authorities urged parents to take them to the nearest health center, in case the officials do not reach their homes.
