During a meeting within the framework of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum, Xi Jinping highlighted the long history of friendship with Somalia and recalled that it was the first East African country to establish diplomatic relations with the new China.
Xi expressed to his counterpart Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Beijing’s willingness to further strengthen bilateral ties for the benefit of the people of both countries. The Chinese president stressed that both China and Somalia share the historic mission of achieving the complete unification of their territories and reiterated his support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia.
In response, the Somali president thanked China for its support and highlighted the importance of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum Summit held in Beijing.
Mohamud expressed his confidence in China’s ability to consolidate itself as a modern and strong nation, praised China’s global initiatives and the measures announced on Thursday aimed at promoting joint modernization between Beijing and Africa.
Xi Jinping also held talks with the President of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou-Nguesso, who is also participating in FOCAC 2024, and whom he congratulated for assuming the shared presidency between China and Africa in the Cooperation Forum.
Both leaders agreed to work together to implement the results of the Summit, while calling for strengthening economic and strategic ties between the two nations. They also witnessed the signing of several cooperation agreements in key areas such as infrastructure, agriculture, digital development and green economy.
