UN: China-Africa partnership is a pillar of South-South cooperation

Beijing, Sep 5 (Prensa Latina) The Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, said that China's partnership with Africa is the main pillar of South-South cooperation.

Gutérres made these comments during his guest speech at the official opening of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Summit (FOCAC 2024), which is taking place in Beijing, and is focused on collaboration for the modernization of Africa.

The Secretary General assured that the United Nations will participate fully in supporting the development of a strong partnership between these two regions and in promoting the common global goals of peace, sustainable development and protection of human rights.

In the Guterres opinion, the goal of collaboration between China and Africa is in line with contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals of Agenda 2030 and Agenda 2063 of the African Union. He also considered that joint efforts between both parties will provide new impetus for the progress of the continent.

The China-Africa Cooperation Forum Summit adopted the Beijing Declaration on Building an All-Time China-Africa Community with a Shared Future in the New Era. In addition, the participants in the event also approved the FOCAC Action Plan for 2025-2027.

More than 50 African leaders met in Beijing, and together with Chinese President Xi Jinping, announced the boosting of bilateral relations to a strategic partnership.

During the inauguration, Xi Jinping announced financial support for the next three years valued at 360 billion yuan (approximately 50.704 billion US dollars), aimed at implementing modernization measures in Africa. Beyond this economic support, the president announced measures to strengthen cooperation in health, exchanges between peoples, green development, trade, infrastructure construction, consultation in multilateral forums, among other issues.
